Do you know a graduating senior who is interested in Engineering?  Math?  CAD?  Building structures or roadways?  If so, we have an exceptional scholarship opportunity available!  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet offers two scholarship programs geared toward civil engineering.  These scholarships provide money for college, paid summer employment while in school, and full-time employment after college graduation.  This opportunity can’t be beat!!  The application deadline is February 1.  Below you will find a brief description.  More details and the applications can be found on our website.  

The Civil Engineering Scholarship Program is for students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at Western KY University, University of Louisville, or University of Kentucky.  Students can also take classes at other Kentucky state colleges/universities, with approved programs, before transferring to WKU, UofL, or UK.  Candidates must have an ACT composite score of 24 and maintain a GPA of 2.5 while in college.  College Freshmen and Sophomores currently receive $6,200 a semester to apply towards tuition, books, etc.  Juniors and Seniors receive $6,600 a semester.  Students are expected to work for the Cabinet upon graduation for each year they received a stipend.  This scholarship can be worth over $51,000! 

The Civil Engineering Technology Program is for students interested in pursuing an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology at Big Sandy Community & Technical College in Prestonsburg and Blue Grass Community & Technical College in Lexington.  Candidates must meet the entrance qualifications for the college and maintain a GPA of 2.5.  Students receive $3,000 a semester, and are expected to work for the Cabinet upon graduation for each year they received a stipend.

  TMAP - Transportation Mechanic Apprenticeship Program: Ramona Brock – Program Coordinator – Ramona.Brock@ky.gov – 502-782-7962

TMAP is an exciting new program at KYTC that provides paid, practical, hands-on experience at the local level of the Department of Highways. Designed for students currently enrolled in an Automotive or Diesel Technology Program through the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), participants can earn a nationally recognized credential as an “Automotive Technician Specialist Apprentice” in addition to a college degree. The Transportation Mechanic Apprenticeship Program meets national standards for registration with the U.S. Department of Labor and the Kentucky Office of Apprenticeship.  Know a student interested in pursuing Automotive or Diesel technology?  Deadline to apply is September 1 of the students first semester in the KCTCS program.

    KEEN-Kentucky Engineering Exposure Network: 

The KEEN program is dedicated to teaching Kentucky’s kids about engineering.  KEEN offers free hands-on classroom presentations by our very own engineers.  They discuss the applications of math and science in real world situations.  Presentations are adapted to different age groups and topics.  KEEN Coordinators are located all across the state.
