GENERAL INFORMATION

CREDITS:

Each class passed earns a student one credit.  Health and PE are ½ credit classes but are paired together.  Freshmen must earn a minimum of 5 credits to be classified a sophomore.
          6  credits for promotion to grade 10
         12 credits for promotion to grade 11
         18 credits for promotion to grade 12
         24 credits to graduate

REQUIRED CREDITS:

English, Science, Social Studies, Math, Health and Physical Education are all required classes for graduation.  If any one of these classes is failed, it must be repeated until passed.

PRE-COLLEGE CURRICULUM:

In order for students to meet the requirements to be accepted into any of the state colleges, they must meet the pre-college curriculum.   All of our students will meet these guidelines through our graduation requirements with the exception of foreign language.  Henry County High School does not require foreign language for graduation; however, to meet the Pre-College Curriculum a student must complete 2 years of the same foreign language.

**For more information on classes, credits, and course sequencing, see the Program of Studies book.

GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA):

Starting with high school, grades are figured as a grade point average (GPA).  GPA’s are only computed when classes are completed and credit is awarded.

To compute a GPA:  For each grade you receive, add the point values below and then divide by the number of classes you took:

            A = 4 pts

            B = 3 pts

            C = 2 pts

            D = 1 pt

            F = 0 pts

Each student should strive to keep his/her GPA as high as possible in order to receive KEES money (see information below) and to qualify for different programs and scholarships during his/her junior and senior years.

KEES – KENTUCKY EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP:

The state of Kentucky will actually pay students to make good grades and apply that money towards their college education.  Awards are based on GPA and ACT scores.  For more information go to KHEAA.
